Hopkinton Police investigate suspicious noise from mail drop box

by | Nov 22, 2018 | Police & Fire

On Nov. 6 at approximately 6 p.m. a woman entered the Hopkinton Police Station and reported a ticking sound coming from a mail drop box at the Post Office on Cedar Street. Officers responded and secured the area. As a precaution, a nearby business was evacuated and Cedar Street was closed to traffic. The post office was not open at this time.

The Hopkinton Fire Department, Hopkinton postmaster and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad were requested and responded to the scene. After a check by the Bomb Squad the contents of the mailbox were determined to contain no explosive devices. The ticking sound was determined to be attributed to the building itself. At no time was there a threat to public safety.
