The date is set for a history talk that will explore Hopkinton’s history through the 1700s, illuminated through original Town Meeting notes.
Hopkinton Historical Society member Chuck Joseph will lead the presentation Monday at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. Sponsored by My House Partners and the Historical Society, the talk will allow the audience to “hear the thoughts of the citizens of Hopkinton in the 1700s.”
Joseph, along with close collaborator Aubrey Doyle, previewed some of what the talk could entail to the Independent back in April. During that discussion, the two noted a probable emphasis on the town’s activities during the American Revolutionary War.
A hallmark of the talk is the reliance on original Town Meeting notes to tell the story of Hopkinton during this time period. The records, which have been preserved and have managed to survive multiple fires, are being transcribed through the use of innovative technology.
Joseph showed the Independent back in April that the Historical Society has been scanning the meeting notes to preserve them digitally and is using artificial intelligence to decipher the 300-year-old script.
The goal of employing the technology is to help develop the historical society into an “active research center,” Joseph noted.
The free talk will be held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.
