Trails Club asks for community support in clearing Colella cattle run

To help realize its vision for the trails at the Colella property, the Hopkinton Trails Club is asking for additional community support.
The HTC has spent its two most recent monthly workdays clearing a “cattle run” at the property. A wide lane bordered by stone walls running in parallel, the path — once used for moving cattle — extends out to Hayden Rowe Street.
The club says the cattle run could make for a good connection to the existing Hughes Farm Trail, but significant layers of vines, thorns and other detritus have complicated the clearing process.
“It quickly became apparent that this would be a long-term project, and it would involve more than just the Trails Club,” the HTC noted in a recent newsletter.
With about 540 feet of the cattle run already cleared, the HTC is hoping to have the rest done by the end of its next workday in April. To aid in this goal, the group is asking for as many residents as possible to join them.
“This is one of those trail work projects where anyone can contribute,” the HTC newsletter stated. “No special skills required.”
“There’s a lot to do, and more folks helping means more gets done,” it added.
The next work day at the Colella property is scheduled for April 5, starting at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to bring gloves, sturdy footwear and appropriate tools. More information can be found on the HTC’s website.
