Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.
Select Board, Board of Assessors seats contested in this year’s Town Election
This year’s Town Election will feature two key races, while the majority of other positions go uncontested.
The race for Select Board features three candidates for two open positions. Incumbent Shahidul Mannan is looking to keep his seat, while candidates Matthew Kizner and Jeffrey Doyle are in the running. One of the challengers will replace Select Board member Mary Jo LaFreniere, who has opted not to seek reelection.
Frederick Mayer will challenge incumbent Peter Mimmo for his seat on the Board of Assessors. Mimmo also has filed candidacy papers for one of the open seats on the Planning Board.
The remainder of the open positions this year are uncontested and set to go to incumbents. A handful of new candidates are in line to fill other openings.
Raymond Malcolm Smith is set to take a seat on the Board of Health. Dr. Richard Jacobs, the current board chair, has decided not to run at the end of his current term. Zachary Kosan filed for the town moderator position to replace Ellen Rutter, and Amna Diwan is running for the other Planning Board position opening up this year. [Editor’s note: Smith’s name has been updated from a previous version of this story.]
Those interested in learning more about the candidates can do so at the Hopkinton Women’s Club 37th annual Meet the Candidates Night this Wednesday at the HCAM-TV Studio. The event will allow residents the opportunity to meet with the candidates and ask questions. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed by HCAM.
