Piano recital at HCA to span musical eras, cross cultures

Yingqi Wang with Piano

Yingqi Wang will perform a piano recital at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts on Jan. 25.

Hopkinton resident and pianist Yingqi Wang will host a wide-spanning piano recital at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts next month.

The hour-long program on Jan. 25 at the HCA covers music from the classical period all the way up to contemporary compositions. Wang also intends to feature work from Chinese composer Zhang Zhao.

“I really want to share some Chinese music with the audience,” said Wang.

Bringing together Western and Chinese music and techniques is an area of focus for Wang, whose doctoral work in piano performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln centered on a cross-cultural repertoire. According to her website, Wang is “dedicated to exploring cross-cultural musical connections while maintaining excellence in classical piano performance and pedagogy.”

Wang reported that she moved to Hopkinton about six months ago with her husband, who works in the Boston area. She teaches piano in public and private schools around Boston and recently started her own company, Dolce Music and Piano LLC.

Those interested in attending the recital must reserve tickets online. Admission is free.

Wang said she is excited to bring her music to the community. “I wanted to share my music with local people,” she explained.
