Household hazardous waste to be collected Saturday

The Department of Public Works will host its annual household hazardous waste collection day this Saturday.

Residents can bring hazardous waste to the DPW facility at 83 Wood Street between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There is a limit of 25 pounds of waste and one trip per household. Identification will be required.

As well, the DPW asks that residents keep items in their original, sealed containers whenever possible. Those disposing of items should make sure to pack any containers in sturdy, upright boxes padded with newspaper.

Examples of waste items that will be accepted are oil-based paints, weed killers, spot remover, degreasers and propane tanks. The DPW cannot accept items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, fireworks and explosives.

More information on acceptable items can be found on the DPW’s website. Those with questions about disposal and allowed items are asked to contact the DPW’s administrative office at 508-497-9740.

Outside of Saturday’s household waste collection day, the DPW offers universal waste collection at the E.L. Harvey recycling center at 394 Wood Street on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Accepted waste includes fluorescent bulbs, mercury-containing products, and nickel cadmium or lithium batteries.

The Department of Public Works has set new dates for continued construction work on several roads in town that will continue into August.

MassDOT announced it will continue work on ramps at the I-90/I-495 interchange in Hopkinton throughout next week.

Stephen Mayo, 83, of Hopkinton passed away July 16.

Doris Criasia, 101, passed away June 22. She was a resident of Hopkinton for 45 years.

The Gunpowder and Lead Band will play the Hopkinton Center for the Arts’ Summer Concert Series on Saturday.

Town meetings tonight include the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board (6), Cultural Council (6:30) and Planning Board (7).
