Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.
As the new vice chair of the Select Board, Mary Jo LaFreniere said she will be confronting some of Hopkinton’s most difficult challenges during her final year in office. The longtime official and volunteer said one of the toughest decisions she has had to make recently was in choosing Brian Herr over Shahidul Mannan for Select Board chair.
Select Board member Shahidul Mannan and his wife, Nasiba Mannan, the Board of Health’s vice chair, on Tuesday night resigned from the Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee via an email to HDTC members. On Wednesday afternoon, Cultural Council chair Ilana Casady also resigned.
New Select Board chair Brian Herr urged the town to slow down the hiring process for the new town manager during Tuesday night’s meeting, calling for public engagement with the finalists for this key town role.
Town Clerk Connor Degan on Wednesday released updated vote totals from Monday’s Annual Town Election, with no changes to any of the races or questions. The official results are expected within a few days, according to Degan. But they are “unlikely to have a significant effect on any of the results.”
At Tuesday’s Board of Health meeting, members discussed the ongoing issues with food distribution in the Legacy Farms neighborhood. The Health Department has been coordinating with the Legacy Farms HOA, United States Department of Agriculture and Massachusetts Department of Public Health to curb these activities.
This week’s Police Log includes reports of online harassment, shoplifting at a Main Street business and a car striking a rabbit on Saddle Hill Road.
Town meetings tonight include the Veterans Celebration Committee (7).
