Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, July 13

by | Jul 13, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Leading off the Select Board roundup, the board and town officials discussed possible ways the Main Street Corridor Project work could have less of an impact on downtown traffic. Also, the board unanimously supported the calling of a Special Town Meeting for Aug. 18 in order to vote on a request for $850,000 in additional funding for the Marathon School addition.

The Select Board approval process for police officer candidates generally moves quickly, but Tuesday presented a new scenario for the board. One of the two candidates, Tyler Staback, had worked as a Massachusetts State Trooper since January 2019 until this past April, when he was dishonorably discharged after failing to adhere to the state’s mandate that troopers be vaccinated for COVID-19, he shared.

The 14th Annual Hopkinton Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 16-18 at the Hopkinton High School courts. Divisions include men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Town meetings tonight include the Hopkinton Housing Authority (6), Board of Appeals (7) and Hopkinton Historic District Commission (7:15).
