Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, June 16

by | Jun 16, 2021 | Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

A tanker truck carrying water overturned on West Main Street on Tuesday afternoon near the Interstate 495 exit, blocking traffic in the westbound left lane. Emergency personnel responded to the scene just after 2 p.m. Multiple lanes of traffic on both sides of West Main Street were closed for much of the late afternoon.

The Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee will hold a caucus Thursday night to elect delegates for this fall’s state Democratic convention. The event is open to the public, although only registered Hopkinton Democrats are invited to participate.

Hopkinton’s Jimmy Hervol is set to debut on golf’s biggest stage this week with an appearance in the 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. The competition runs Thursday through Sunday.

In more than 25 years around the sport, Hopkinton High School wrestling coach Tim Nelson had never had a winter go by without rolling out the mats. The COVID-19 pandemic changed all that. But the pandemic did allow for one silver lining: the chance to compete in an unusual outdoor meet.

Town meetings tonight include the Sustainable Green Committee (6:30) and Trail Coordination and Management Committee (7:30).
