Irene Cook

Irene F. Cook, 79, of Hopkinton passed away on Aug. 5, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Helen (Benedetto) DeLucia. Irene was the beloved wife of Michael Cook for the past 35 years.

A graduate of Watertown High School, Irene worked for many years as a sales clerk at Building 19 in Natick until the store closed in 2013.

Irene found joy in life’s simple pleasures and cherished every moment spent with her family. She loved tending to her garden and caring for the koi in her backyard pond, finding peace in the beauty of nature. When she was able, she enjoyed traveling and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She was known for baking delicious brownies that brought smiles to family and friends, and she took great pride in decorating her home, creating a warm and welcoming place where everyone felt loved and at ease.

In addition to her husband, Michael, she is survived by daughter Shirley Kasanovich and husband Stephen of Northwood, New Hampshire; stepchildren Jeff Cook and wife Jenica of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Amy Cook and Gianluca of Newton; grandchildren Jay, Ryan, Heather, Stephen, Sarah, Eliana, Evan, Emma, Matteo and Filippo; great-grandchildren Hazel, Calvin, Nicholas, Charlie, Rori, RJ, Logan and Luke; brothers Ron DeLucia and Kenny DeLucia, both of Revere; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by daughter Karen Hogan, stepdaughter Lisa Cook and grandson Nicholas DiGiacomo.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Friday, Aug. 14, from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Matarese Funeral Home in Ashland. A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
