Main Street Corridor Project update: Preparation for brick installation expected to resume after Labor Day

by | Aug 30, 2024 | News

The town on Friday issued an update on the Main Street Corridor Project, noting that preparation for brick installation is anticipated to begin after the Labor Day holiday.

A.F. Amorello & Sons, the project’s construction company, is expected to return to on-site work. The company will saw cut the cement sidewalk and the asphalt bike lane in preparation for the brick installation. It also will work on excavation preparation for the wall at 1 West Main Street.

Amorello has been performing brickwork, sidewalk work, curb work, landscaping and underground utility connections from the property lines to several building foundations and into buildings as required over the past several weeks.

At the Aug. 27 Select Board meeting, Town Manager Elaine Lazarus said the company was expected to start the preparation work on Aug. 26 but had not been seen on-site that week as of the meeting.

Eversource crews have been performing the preliminary work associated with the transformers, which should be completed within a month. All 12 transformers were installed the previous week. Shifting power lines from being overhead to underground should begin in late September or early October.

Overhead utility line work will continue on the west side of the project during the upcoming week, while work on underground utility connections from property lines to building foundations also continues.

Polar Vortex’s painting crew will continue its work on the traffic poles, where paint was peeling. Scheduled hours for this work will be from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Locations for repairs include the intersections of Main Street and Commonwealth Avenue, Pleasant Street, Grove Street, Church Street, Wood Street and Hayden Rowe Street, as well as in front of the Fire Station.

This schedule may change due to weather and existing conditions found while performing these tasks. This work may impact traffic and require lane and sidewalk closures, limiting access to driveways and entrances to businesses. Detours and alternating traffic patterns may be used as necessary.
