Main Street hydrant test expected to cause water discoloration

by | May 18, 2026 | News

The Water-Sewer Department will be conducting a required hydrant flow test on Main Street on Tuesday.

The test is scheduled for 10 p.m. at 13 Main Street. In a notice to residents, Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff said officials were anticipating the flow test to cause discolored water in the test area.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released. The Water-Sewer Department recommends residents check their water before use.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
