Interstate 90 westbound in Hopkinton, near the I-495 interchange, was closed Friday morning for emergency repair operations after a construction trench settlement formed in the low-speed lane due to nearby construction, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced.

All traffic on I-90 westbound was being detoured onto Route 9 at Exit 111 in Framingham. However, vehicles that already had passed the Route 9 exit were stranded on the MassPike since about 7:30 a.m. Around 9:15 a.m., that traffic started to move slowly, as crews apparently opened at least one lane in the affected area to allow those stranded vehicles to pass.
“Crews are working to fix the issue and reopen lanes,” MassDOT stated in a press release at 9 a.m. “Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to seek an alternative route. The duration of the road closure is currently unknown, but is expected to extend through the morning.”
The I-90/I-495 interchange is undergoing a major transformation, and the two bridges on Fruit Street in Hopkinton are being redone.
Every piece of that high way is tore up for some reason or another,
