Police to host Early Release Hangout at Town Common this Friday

by | Oct 16, 2023 | Featured: News, News, Police & Fire

With early release days at Hopkinton schools leading to problems downtown over the past year, the Hopkinton Police Department is offering a potential solution, hosting an Early Release Hangout this Friday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Town Common.

The free event, for “all students and friends,” will include video games in the form of gaming trailers from Ultimate Mobile Gaming, along with complimentary food and drinks.

“We want to welcome everyone to the Town Common and enjoy the Main Street businesses on this half-day of school,” Detective Sgt. Scott van Raalten explained.

Event sponsors include Bill’s Pizzeria, Hop-Yo, Muffin House Cafe and Middlesex Savings Bank.

For more information, email School Resource Officer Matthew Santoro at msantoro@hopkintonpd.org.

This is fantastic! We need to give these kids something to do, especially on an early release day! I tried to get something going like this over 30 years ago and could not get it done. This was back in the day when the HPD would just tell the kids to get off the street and go home or you will go to the station. The kids just want to hang out together other than being in school.
It should also be a great opportunity to develop a good working relationship between the kids and the HPD and all the business in town. I look at this as as a huge win for everyone that will hopefully be sustainable in the future!
A huge thank you to everyone involved in doing this!
