Porter sentencing hearing postponed until June 23

by | Jun 18, 2025 | Featured: News, News

The sentence imposition hearing for former Hopkinton Deputy Police Chief John “Jay” Porter previously scheduled for Wednesday was postponed until Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Porter on June 6 was convicted of three counts of rape of a child, which are felonies. His bail was revoked, and he was transported to the Middlesex County House of Correction in Billerica to await sentencing.

Porter was charged with having sexual and digital intercourse with a Hopkinton High School student when he was the school resource officer there two decades ago. He also was found guilty of having oral sex with her when driving her home from babysitting at his house.

The likely reason for the delay was a scheduling conflict with one of the attorneys. This possibility was mentioned at the time of Porter’s conviction.
