Select Board finalizes Special Town Meeting warrant

The Select Board on Wednesday finalized the warrant for the Aug. 18 Special Town Meeting, with the School Department putting forth the only article.

The schools are seeking Town Meeting’s approval of $850,000 to cover the additional construction costs to add four classrooms to the Marathon School.

Town Manager Norman Khumalo said the town was still working to finalize the article’s language, specifically as it refers to the source of the funding. The money could come from a department transfer or be appropriated from other means. In either event, it would not require additional money from taxpayers, as Khumalo indicated the funds are available in existing accounts.

The board will sign the warrant at its Aug. 2 meeting.

Special Town Meeting likely will be held at the High School Athletic Center, Select Board Chair Amy Ritterbusch said, noting that the high school and middle school auditoriums would not be available due to renovations. The time has not yet been set.

In the only other item of business during Wednesday’s meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Andrew Hayes from the Sustainable Green Committee.
