The Hopkinton Senior Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. For a more extensive listing of programs check Ourseniorcenter.com/find/Hopkinton-council-on-aging or hopkintonseniorcenter.com. Thrift Store
The thrift store is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Transportation Programs for Seniors
The Senior Center offers transportation to and from the Senior Center as well as local shopping Tuesdays through Fridays for Hopkinton residents. The Senior Center also can help residents find transportation assistance for medical appointments and essential shopping. Anyone interested should call the Senior Center to learn more about the transportation options.
Lunch Program
The Senior Center website has a full lunch menu. Individuals should call to sign up at least two days in advance. The cost is $5 per meal, or a pre-purchased ticket for five meals is $20.
Outreach Services
The Senior Center has an Outreach Department. The department can help identify assistance programs (including fuel assistance), loan durable medical equipment, help with transportation and much more. Anyone looking for assistance or more information about services should call to make an appointment.
Art Appreciation: Landscapes Old and New
Thursday, March 10, 1-2 p.m.
In this in-person presentation, attendees will explore the genre of landscape painting as it has changed over time, showcasing a variety of cultures and time periods, offering an opportunity to experience artists’ diverse and powerful decisions — some subtle, some bold — as they portray Europe, Asia and America. The cost is $3 per person.
Cultural Conversations: South Africa — A Beautiful Mix

Tour Guide Deon Kitching started Embrace South Africa Tours 18 years ago to enrich people’s lives through authentic opportunities to connect with the diversity of South African culture and discover the immense beauty of the country. This live, authentic South African virtual tour includes highlights from Cape Town, Table Mountain, the penguin colony at Boulders Simon’s Town, Cape Point Nature Reserve, Robbern Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years) and so much more. St. Patrick’s Day Party
Thursday, March 17, 12-1:30 p.m.
Join the Senior Center for a traditional Saint Patrick’s Day lunch of corned beef and cabbage. Music and entertainment will be provided by the Black Velvet Band, Boston’s premier Irish show and dance band, whose repertoire boasts a large and diverse collection of well-known, easy-listening ballads, lively pub songs, feisty rebel tunes, sing-alongs, oldies, rock classics and contemporary songs — something for everyone. There will be no regular lunch program this day. Space is limited. Registration required by March 9. This event is fully sponsored by the Friends of Hopkinton Seniors.
Musical Baseball Show
Thursday, March 24, 1 p.m.
Performing a unique, interactive and highly entertaining program, local singer-songwriter (and former sportswriter) Howie Newman will sing baseball songs, offer up baseball trivia and tell stories about his days as a sportswriter on the Red Sox beat. Howie covered baseball for the Patriot Ledger, Lowell Sun, Boston Globe and Lynn Item as well as several other newspapers and magazines. For three years, he provided color commentary for the Lowell Spinners, a Red Sox farm team, on WCAP radio. Howie will display his personal memorabilia and have a few door prizes available. This program is sponsored by a grant from the Hopkinton Cultural Council, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
