Temporary water discoloration possible after flow reversal

by | Aug 24, 2024 | News

Hopkinton Water-Sewer manager Eric Carty announced that there could be temporary water discoloration in areas of town after a flow reversal at the Ashland plant on Friday.

According to the announcement, the reversal stirred up water mains in the area. Residents have been advised that they might notice some discoloration on and off throughout the weekend as the water lines clear.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
