Tornado warning issued for Hopkinton area Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for for Middlesex County (which includes Hopkinton) and Worcester County on Tuesday morning until 9:30 a.m.

Residents were advised to take shelter in a basement or interior room (away from windows) on the lowest floor. Those outdoors or in a vehicle were advised to “move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”

Heavy rains were expected to lead to flooding in the area as well.

UPDATE, 9:25 a.m.: The tornado warning was allowed to expire, as the storm weakened below severe limits and no longer appeared capable of producing a tornado, the National Weather Service shared.
