Touchstone Community School Summer Camp

by | May 1, 2019 | Business, Education

Where summer is fun and learning is values-based

Touchstone Community School, a Pre-K through Grade 8 school in Grafton, offers Summer@Touchstone, a summer camp that reflects the school’s progressive, playful and joyful approach to learning.

Touchstone, the only independent school in Grafton, has been serving kids for 36 years, and Summer@Touchstone, is heading into its fifth year. Summer@Touchstone was created to reflect the school’s mission and to honor summer as a time for children to explore, discover and grow socially and emotionally.

“Our summer camp and our school offer rich, engaging experiences that foster empathy, compassion and the joy of lifelong learning,” incoming head of school Sally Kent said.

Kent chose Touchstone as the school for her two children in 1983. Later, she joined Touchstone as the middle school science teacher. Now Kent will take over as head of school beginning July 1.

Summer@Touchstone offers five one-week sessions, beginning June 24. Campers enjoy days filled with outdoor play, hands-on activities and opportunities for new friendships and new learning.

Touchstone School and Summer@Touchstone value the growth that comes from outdoor education, including learning to grow and harvest vegetables from the greenhouse and on-campus gardens, identifying plants and animals, taking small hikes on the campus nature trail and more.

In the coop class, children care for and feed Touchstone’s chickens, gathering their eggs and giving them lots of love. Campers also have a variety of choices including outdoor field and circle games, water-flow construction, Legos and block forts, archery, cooking and more.

Full- and half-day options are available, as well as specialty camps including Art Fix Studio, KidStage, Energy Games, Outdoor Adventures, DIY Toys and Gardening for children ages 7-13.

“Experienced Touchstone teachers provide a five-day, afternoon program developed specially to engage and inspire your youngsters,” Kent said.

Registration is open. Discover additional details about the Touchstone Community School and its summer camp program at summer.touchstoneschool.com.
