Water-Sewer manager Eric Carty announced a water main break on Downey Street that occurred Sunday is affecting water quality in the area.
According to Carty’s notice, “there may be discoloration on and off for several days in the surrounding area.” Crews are unable to flush fire hydrants due to below-freezing temperatures.
Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.
Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
