A Google Map view shared by the Hopkinton Police Department on Facebook shows the detour route for the upcoming Ash Street construction project set to begin Monday.

The Department of Public Works announced it will begin a three-week construction project on Ash Street starting Monday.

In a notice, project manager Nicole Bratsos explained that the project includes the installation of new underground drainage lines and drainage structures. The existing water main must be lowered in order to make room for the new drain line.

As a result, there will be a temporary water main shutdown beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday. The shutdown is anticipated to last about eight hours and will affect the area between 15-32 Ash Street. This is the only expected water shutdown associated with this project.

During the construction project, traffic will detour around the work zone from 7 a.m.-3 p.m on weekdays. During weekends and off-hours, the road will be open. The detour will be between Park Street and Pike Street, and will be in place for the first two weeks of the project.

Residents will have access to their properties while the detour is active. Officers will be on site to assist. Emergency vehicles, trash and other services also will have access during construction. EL Harvey has requested all residents in the detour area put their trash out by 6:30 a.m. on their day of service.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released. The Water-Sewer Department recommends residents check their water before use.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
