Water-Sewer Department investigates discolored water near Lake Maspenock

by | Jul 17, 2026 | Featured: News, News

Department of Public Works Director Kerry Reed announced Friday that crews were actively responding to reports of discolored water in neighborhoods on South Street and West Main Street, as well as around Lake Maspenock.

Crews were flushing hydrants and responding to reports Friday morning, Reed explained in a notice to residents. She also noted that there was no planned water main work or fire flow testing in the area.

“The Water Department is investigating potential unauthorized use or water main breaks,” Reed stated. She encouraged residents to contact the Water-Sewer Department if they have any information.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water-Sewer Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
