Weather concerns postpone skate park ribbon cutting indefinitely

by | Apr 3, 2025 |

Due to ongoing weather issues, the grand reopening ceremony of the Hank Fredette Skate Park at EMC Park has been postponed until further notice.

In a press release from the Parks & Recreation Department, Director Jon Lewitus noted that the weather “continues to not cooperate.” As a result, the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was rescheduled from March 29 to this Saturday, has been put on hold indefinitely.

“We will look forward to the summer to hold the event,” Lewitus noted. “We will be sure to contact [residents] when we have the new date.”

Although the ribbon cutting has been delayed, the skate park remains open for visitors. Parks & Rec completed the project back in December and officially opened the park to skaters Jan. 1. The postponed ceremony is intended to commemorate the work it took to restore the park.

“It’s really just an event to experience the park and get excited,” Lewitus said in a previous interview with the Independent.
