Hopkinton performer Michelle Leibowitz takes to stage in timely production

by | Nov 8, 2018 | Featured

Hopkinton’s Michelle Leibowitz will perform in Caryl Churchill’s “Top Girls” with Ghost Light Players of MetroWest Nov. 9-11. Leibowitz portrays three very different characters in this production that examines the role of women in society and what it means to be a “successful” woman.

“It’s important to know that this is an all-female production team and cast,” said Leibowitz. “I hope that someday that doesn’t have to be impressive or cool, but it just becomes something that just is. It has been awesome working with these women in an all-female environment.”

Leibowitz, who also serves on the Board of Directors and as the interim artistic director for Ghost Light Players, has performed in various other roles in community and regional theaters and previously taught drama at Wellesley High School and Hopkinton Middle School. All four of her children have been involved in performing arts, with three having performed on stage with her.

Written in 1982, “Top Girls” is, according to Leibowitz, a landmark production in the feminist movement. She said, “It’s hard not to see what the women [in the play] are going through in light of the political movement happening now. Why are we still here? Why haven’t we moved forward more?”

Show dates are Nov. 9 and 10 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Performances will be held at First Church in Marlborough, 37 High St. Tickets are available at www.ghostlightplayers.com/boxoffice/.
