HHS sports roundup: Boys hoops, girls hoops, boys hockey post wins over Holliston

by | Feb 10, 2021 | Sports

The Hopkinton High School boys basketball team recorded a 62-54 victory over visiting Holliston on Wednesday night.

Brian Keefe poured in 16 points, Nate Kasper scored 14 and Matt Cooper netted 12 to fuel the win.

The Hillers led 12-8 after one quarter and proceeded to score the first 16 points of the second quarter to take a 20-point lead. Holliston used a 9-0 run to claw back to 28-17 at the half. The HHS lead was 16 after three (49-33). Holliston made a run in the final period and got as close as six with a minute left, at which point Kasper drew a charge to change the momentum. Cooper hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final minute to help close it out.

The boys (2-5) next play at Medway on Friday.

The girls basketball team rolled to a 56-35 victory at Holliston. This one was all Hopkinton right from the start, as the Hillers scored the first 13 points and led by as many as 18 in the opening period. It was 22-9 after one period, 35-16 at the half and 48-32 after three.

Kiki Fossbender and Lauren Cho scored 15 points apiece, and Brooke Dougherty chipped in with 10.

The girls (6-4) next host Medway on Friday.

The boys hockey team scored two late goals for a 2-0 victory over host Holliston.

Joe Carrazza scored the first goal, tipping in a wrister from the right point by Cole Dickson with just over five minutes left and the Hillers on a power play.

Just over three minutes later, defenseman Quentin Barnes lifted a pass to a streaking Carrazza at center ice. Carrazza skated into the middle of the offensive zone and left a drop pass for Pavit Mehra, who fired home the insurance goal with 1:48 remaining.

The Hillers (5-2) visit Holliston again on Saturday.

The Hopkinton/Dover-Sherborn girls hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss at Dedham. The girls (1-6-1) close out the season this weekend with home games vs. Westwood (Saturday) and Medway (Sunday).
