HHS robotics team wins national community award

by | Feb 15, 2021 | Education

Hopkinton High School Robotics Team 2602G was named a winner of the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation online challenge in the community award category for its work uniting the community through STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

The team, consisting of Chloe Barnes, Imaan Haider, Shanzay Khan, Rithika Kilari, Disha Mudenur, Emma Steir, Srilakshmi Venkatesan and Amanda Xie, created tournaments, launched a website and tutored students about STEM.

The team “organized many community service outreach programs over the last year which focused on presenting STEM education opportunities for younger students in Hopkinton and beyond,” said Doug Scott, the Business/Technology/Engineering subject matter leader for Grades 6-12. “The VEX Robotics Competition requested submissions for a Google Community Award which would honor teams that had conducted community service above and beyond during the past year. The HHS team documented their work through a short video which they submitted for review. They were chosen as a first-place award from submissions from many entrants from countries participating in VEX Robotics.”
