During the public forum portion of Tuesday’s Select Board meeting, Select Board Member Brendan Tedstone called attention to the passing of longtime resident Joe Pyne, who died Nov. 2 at the age of 81.
The son of a one-time Hopkinton fire chief, Pyne went to Brown University before joining the U.S. Army and eventually embarking on a half-century career as a long-haul truck driver.
“He was about the most brilliant truck driver you ever met in your life,” said Tedstone, who added that Pyne was a cousin of his.
Pyne volunteered at the Hopkinton Senior Center and was well known around town.
“He’s just what Hopkinton used to be, and hopefully what it will be moving forward,” Tedstone said.
Added Mary Jo LaFreniere: “One thing about Joe, if he saw you, he never failed to acknowledge you.”
Appointments confirmed
The Select Board voted to confirm the following appointments: Nisha Nanaware-Kharade to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board, James Burton to the Board of Appeals, Sandra Story to the Cultural Council, Patrick Fagan to the Hopkinton Historic District Commission, Nasiba Mannan to the Veterans Celebration Committee, and Linda Chuss to the Sustainable Green Committee.
Additionally, Ed Harrow was approved as fence viewer.
The board also accepted the resignations of Dawn Ronan and Andrea Krammes from the Youth Commission and lauded both for their service.
Later in the meeting, it was shared that Tom Garabedian had resigned as town moderator.
Misc.: Board OK’s Boston Marathon bib policy
The board voted unanimously to approve its policy on distributing Boston Marathon charity bibs, which it does every year. Town Manager Norman Khumalo indicated that local organizations raised close to $300,000 through the program. …
The board adopted exemptions at 200 percent of the calendar year 2020 circuit breaker income tax credit for Fiscal Year 2022. This relates to the means tested senior citizen property tax exemption. …
The board approved an advance of funds in lieu of borrowing in the amount of $900,000 in connection with the Hayden Rowe water main replacement. This item was approved in Article 20 of the May 2016 Annual Town Meeting. …
The board continued its discussion about setting goals, reviewing priorities brought up at previous meetings.
