HHS Sports Roundup: Wrestling holds off Norton; hockey games moved up to Friday

The Hopkinton High School wrestling team held on for an exciting 41-39 victory over visiting Norton on Wednesday, its first win over the Lancers in more than 10 years.

Sebastian Losada, James Muzzy, Cyrus Hanson, Jari Zaidi, Devin Canty, Adam Distasio and Jack Hoyt recorded pins for the Hillers. …

Girls hockey, down to nine skaters for the second straight game, dropped a 7-1 decision to Westwood on Wednesday. The girls will play Medfield on Friday at 7 p.m. at New England Sports Center, moving the game up a day due to the predicted snowstorm. …

The boys ice hockey game scheduled to Saturday was moved up to Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Hopedale. Due to COVID restrictions, only family members can attend. …

Boys swimming knocked off Norwood on Tuesday, 99-60. Tyler Fallon won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, while Davis Peishoff took first in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke (qualifying for sectionals in the process). Lucas Coffman and Kevin Zhu both broke 6 minutes for the 500 free. …

Girls swimming beat Norwood on Tuesday, 102-82. Tess Weatherhead won the diving competition to finish the Tri-Valley League season undefeated. The 400 free relay team of Katie Balster, Olivia Scalora, Natalie Bouffard and Sofia Luce posted a season-best time. …

Girls basketball turned away a scrappy Millis team on Tuesday, 61-44. Kiki Fossbender led the Hillers with 14 points, while Brooke Dougherty and Lauren Cho each scored 12 and Lexy Trendel netted 10. …

Boys basketball recorded a 55-48 victory over visiting Millis on Tuesday, led by Nate Kasper. …

At the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association State Relays on Sunday, the boys 50-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Drew Bialobrzeski, Will Bialobrzeski, Declan Mick and Sean Golembiewski shattered the school record with a time of 26.61 seconds, finishing in first place and qualifying for nationals. …

Also at the MSTCA meet, the girls hurdle relay team of Kiley Locke, Emma DeMichele, Sowmya Karthikeyan and Ellie Driscoll finished fifth in Division 2 and qualified for nationals. Additionally, the girls high jump relay team (Keira O’Connor, Bridget O’Connor and Emma Canestrari) tied for second, the distance medley team (Elyse Srodawa, Aubrey Thomas, Katie Callery and Autumn Tumbleton) was fourth and the shot put squad (Kate Powers, Shelby Jones and Maura Souza) was fifth. …

The Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association has postponed its Hall of Fame banquet from this Saturday to next Saturday (Feb. 5). Among the inductees is HHS baseball coach Steve Simoes. …
