Joanna Vincent

Joanna (Quinn) Vincent, 97, of Simsbury, Connecticut, beloved wife of the late Elmer Vincent, died Sept. 19, 2019.

She was born July 30, 1922, in Simsbury, daughter of the late Thomas Charles and Laura (Welton) Quinn and had lived in Simsbury her entire life. Joanna was a graduate of Simsbury High School and the Morse Business College of Hartford. She proudly served during World War II in the United States Navy (WAVES), with the Bureau of Ships in Washington. Mrs. Vincent was employed as a secretary for Westminster School, Pattison & Company, Inc. and Vincent Funeral Home prior to her retirement in 1978. Joanna was an avid basketball player, tennis player, golfer and an accomplished bowler. A member of the varsity basketball team at Simsbury High School, she was a member of the Simsbury Women’s Golf League, Simsbury Seniors Bowling League and Simsbury Historical Society. She was a 75-year member of Tomalonis-Hall Post 84 American Legion, a member of the Farmington Valley and National AARP and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Simbsury.

Joanna is survived by three sons, former First Selectman Thomas E. Vincent and his wife Dr. Cheryl Vincent of Simsbury, Timothy P. Vincent and Kellie Allen-Wells of Avon, and Anthony L. Vincent and Deborah Vogue of Liverpool, New York; 12 grandchildren, including Priscilla and Vincent Purpura of Hopkinton; and seven great grandchildren, including Samantha, Vinnie and Charlie Purpura of Hopkinton.

Besides her husband, Elmer, she was predeceased by a sister, Jeannette Ryan, and a special friend, Carlton “Sandy” Sanderson of Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 23 at St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Burial with military honors followed in the Simsbury Cemetery.
