Hopkinton Today: Thursday, Dec. 8

by | Dec 8, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Leading off this week’s Independent Thoughts, there are big moves looming for two local businesses: a change in ownership at Hopkinton Drug and the closing of Dynasty restaurant. Meanwhile, Mike Whalen once again is organizing a local collection as part of the Toys for Tots program.

The Conservation Commission at its virtual meeting Tuesday night continued to seek more information on two longstanding town projects, the Massachusetts Laborers Training property on 37 East Street and The Trails in what Chair Jeff Barnes called “a challenging meeting.”

The latest Police Log includes reports of a car striking a deer near the high school, youths smashing a pumpkin, a stolen Apple watch and a squirrel in a house.

This week’s Hiller’s Thrillers Athlete Spotlight shines on cross country standout Elyse Srodawa, who was a Tri-Valley League All-Star, runner-up at the MIAA Division 1B state meet and 16th at the D1 all-state meet.

A position change earned Angie Grabmeier more court time for Bentley University’s volleyball team this fall, and the Hopkinton native helped the Falcons capture 23 victories during a successful regular season and secure a berth in the Division 2 NCAA tournament.

Town meetings tonight include the School Committee (6:30), Appropriation Committee (6:30) and Community Preservation Committee (6:30).

Photo of the Day: This week’s winner of the Hopkinton Independent/Bill’s Pizza photo contest is Linda Chuss for this photo of sunset at Peppercorn Hill, off School Street.
