Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Some have questioned why former Deputy Police Chief John “Jay” Porter — recently charged with child rape — was not fired by the town before he had a chance to resign. Town Manager Norman Khumalo released a statement Friday explaining that the town had no choice in the matter.

As part of the Main Street Corridor Project this week, the town announced that Phase 3 of full-depth excavation from Muffin House Cafe to the east end of the project begins Monday and is expected to take three weeks to complete.

During a workshop-style meeting on Thursday, School Committee members discussed their individual ratings for Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh’s ability to achieve her performance goals.

Instructor Judy Smith will host a one-hour paint workshop on Thursday, May 16, at 1 p.m. at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. This workshop is an age and dementia friendly event for adults experiencing forgetfulness or mild cognitive impairment as well as those living with dementia, caregivers and friends.

Town meetings tonight include the Board of Health (5:30), Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board (6), Sustainable Green Committee (6) and Planning Board (7).
