Hopkinton Today: Thursday, April 4

by | Apr 4, 2024 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

The tension was palpable during Tuesday night’s Select Board midyear performance review of Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett, as Bennett accused chair Muriel Kramer of having a personal vendetta against him for the termination of former HPD Sgt. Tim Brennan.

The Select Board at its five-hour meeting Tuesday approved the hiring of three police academy officers and voted unanimously to increase the amount that older taxpaying residents can earn through volunteering with the Senior Work Program.

Chris Eberly, project manager at Vertex, said that the School Committee would hear a presentation Thursday on potential value engineering options totaling $1,080,000 that could reduce per square footage costs by $10 for the proposed Hopkins School addition/renovation project.

Mallory Sakats is looking forward to running in the Boston Marathon on April 15 because she believes no other event “holds a candle to it.” Sakats is running on behalf of the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Organization.

Leading off this week’s Independent Thoughts, suspended Hopkinton veterinarian Margo Roman defended her actions and accused the Massachusetts Veterinary Board of overstepping its bounds with its latest punishment.

The 26.2 Foundation and the Hopkinton Center for the Arts on Tuesday debuted the Winged Foot exhibition, part of the town’s celebration of the 100th start of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton, and we have photos. The display will stand at the Town Common until April 21.

This week’s Police Log includes two arrests along with reports of a wandering 3-year-old, a speeding mail truck and a dog attacking a person.

Town meetings tonight include the School Committee (6:30) and Open Space Preservation Commission (7).

Photos of the Day: The Harlem Wizards brought their comedic basketball show to Hopkinton High School for an HPTO fundraiser Tuesday night.
