Letter to the Editor: Support sought for zoning change

by | Apr 30, 2024 | Letter to Editor

Article 40 at the May 6 Annual Town Meeting is a zoning map change proposed for 1 Colonial Avenue, 81 Hayden Rowe Street and 83 Hayden Rowe Street via a citizens’ petition.

It is to see if the town will vote to change the zoning district for land at 1 Colonial Ave (shown on Map U22, Block 38, Lot 0), land at 81 Hayden Rowe (shown on Assessor Map U19, Block 175, Lot 0) and land at 83 Hayden Rowe (shown on the Assessor Map U19, Block 175, Lot 2) from Residential A District to Business District.

My Land is 1 Colonial Avenue. The only access to it is my office driveway off Hayden Rowe Street. That driveway goes through J.C. Parmenter, Inc., the currently under development new office building at 87 Hayden Rowe Street, and the businesses at 85 Hayden Rowe Rear. I am completely surrounded, as I have always been, by business.

My family has owned and operated business on this land at 85 Hayden Rowe and 1 Colonial Ave since the 1960s. It has held different usage at different times. I am asking to be changed to business zoning to maintain my right to use my land as we have always done. My plan is to use a small area of the 1.6 acres of 1 Colonial Avenue to park trucks, equipment and trailers.

We have been in operation in Hopkinton my entire life. I have lived here since the day I was born, in the same home, raised my family, run my business and participated in my community, and my hope is to continue to do so for many years. I am asking the town to support me by allowing my right to the use of my land by making it business zoned with a yes vote on Article 40.

— Sue Constanza, Hopkinton
