Jane Dunphy

Jane E. (Forsey) Dunphy, 96, died April 28, 2025, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Dunphy, to whom she was married for 53 years. Born in Charlton, she was the daughter of the late George and Estella (Congdon) Forsey. Her family moved to Westborough when she was a baby, and she remained a resident for her entire life.

Jane was a 1947 graduate of Westborough High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Worcester State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Worcester for 38 years.

After retirement in 1990, she enjoyed spending time at her house on Cape Cod as well as traveling throughout the world with her husband, Dick. After Dick’s death in 2005, she moved to the Willows in Westborough, where she was a resident for the remainder of her life.

Jane was an avid sports fan. She was most passionate about college basketball but also loved her Red Sox and Patriots. She also cherished Westborough High School sports and was a regular at many sporting events over the years.

She is survived by her daughters, Jill Dunphy of Elmira, New York, and Elizabeth Cronin and husband Thomas of Hopkinton. In addition, she leaves her grandsons, Stephen Cronin of Sayerville, New Jersey, and Michael Cronin and wife Emily of Arlington.

Jane’s family wishes to extend gratitude to all the people who gave her care over the past several months, but especially to Kathryn Colbath of Westborough, who provided exemplary care and truly made all the difference in Jane’s last days.

In the spirit of Jane’s passion for Westborough High School sports, donations in her name may be made to Westborough Athletic Boosters, P.O. Box 627, Westborough, MA 01581.

Private funeral arrangements, entrusted to the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home in Hopkinton, are at the convenience of the family.
