Town reinforces warning on water restrictions

by | Jun 26, 2025 | News

The Water-Sewer Department is reiterating the importance of adhering to the town’s water restriction orders following a warning earlier this week.

“Crews out canvassing the town have found a large number of lawn sprinklers running,” Water-Sewer Manager Eric Carty stated in a notice to residents on Thursday. “We would like to remind everyone that there is no lawn watering or non-essential outdoor use as specified on our website.”

Carty went on to note that a surge in water usage over the past week have caused extended pump times to fill water tanks. This has contributed to increases in water discoloration as Water-Sewer works to barely maintain tank levels.

“We need to fill the tanks to allow our wells to recharge and have our water available for firefighting capabilities,” Carty stated. “The current demand is not sustainable with our available infrastructure.”

The town’s mandatory state of water supply conservation, which was enacted back in April, restricts non-essential water use. Examples of non-essential use include lawn watering, vehicle washing, pool filling and more. Residents are allowed to hand water gardens, use water for “core function of a commercial business” and for food production and livestock.

Any use not allowed by the water restriction may be subject to written warnings and fines, with continued violations potentially resulting in suspension of water service.

More information about the town’s water restrictions can be found on the town’s website.

Controlled growth would have prevented this situation.

Heaven forbid people be asked to make the immeasurable sacrifice of not watering their lawn.
