The Department of Public Works cautioned residents to be aware of possible water discoloration following a water main break on Grove Street.
In a notice to residents, Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff announced that crews responded to a water main break at Grove Street on Saturday. Crews from the Department of Public Works had to shut the water main off from Main Street to Price Street in order to make a temporary repair. Water now is restored to Grove Street.
“You may experience air and discoloration,” Fenneuff stated in the notice. “If so, please flush your cold water faucet only, until it dissipates.”
Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.
Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
