Khumalo: Main Street Corridor Project ‘fully funded’

by | May 6, 2020 | Featured Front Page, News

During Tuesday night’s Select Board meeting, Town Manager Norman Khumalo announced that he had “two good things to report” regarding the Main Street Corridor Project.

One is that the project now is “fully funded,” as on April 30 the state approved the budget in the amount of $11,346,564.

Khumalo also confirmed that the town also has been approved for a $3 million MassWorks grant.

Aside from the finances, one of the other major concerns about the project has been the easements. After contacting affected residents, the town filed the order of takings and plans with the Registry of Deeds on April 16, Khumalo reported.

“[On Tuesday morning] we received confirmation from the registry’s Land Division that the town’s filing is in order, and we’re waiting for the registry to record the plan,” he said. “So we have cleared that hurdle.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Select Board also voted to approve the hiring of a firefighter/paramedic and dispatcher, despite the town hiring freeze put in place at last Tuesday’s Select Board meeting.
