An afternoon motor vehicle accident on Hayden Rowe Street Thursday occurred nearly 11 hours after a tractor crashed into on Wood Street, diverting traffic during rainy commuting times.

In emails to the Independent, HPD Deputy Chief Scott van Raalten confirmed information shared Thursday via Facebook posts on the HPD page regarding the accidents.

Van Raalten stated that at approximately 3:20 p.m., there was a motor vehicle accident at 116 Hayden Rowe Street that closed the road to traffic. Police were at the scene to redirect vehicles.

More information on this accident will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

Early morning Wood Street accident sparks tractor fire

At around 4:30 a.m., a tractor apparently veered off the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire in the area of 130 Wood Street, according to an HPD Facebook post. HPD officer Eva Cann was the first to arrive at the scene. She “confirmed the occupants were out of the vehicle, and, with the help of another town resident, worked quickly to get the fire extinguished,” the post shared.

At that point, the Hopkinton Fire Department took charge of the scene.

“The crash occurred on a private way and involved a commercial truck,” van Raalten explained. “It appears the tractor went off the pavement and was unable to recover before hitting a tree. The operator refused medical treatment, and the tractor was towed from the scene.”

He added that there are “no indications that alcohol was a factor in this incident.”
