Grace Melvin

Grace K. (McCarthy) Melvin, 91, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Framingham after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of the late Curtis D. Melvin for 56 years. Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Grace C. (Shea) McCarthy.

Grace grew up in Hudson, graduating from St. Michael’s Academy in 1951 and Framingham State College in 1956. She lived in Framingham for 25 years, serving as a first grade teacher at the Memorial School and a volunteer librarian and substitute teacher at the Juniper Hill School. She was a communicant and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher at St. George’s Parish.

Grace and Curtis moved to Hopkinton in 1982. They were members of St. John’s Parish, and Grace was active with the Hopkinton Senior Center until 2021. She spent her final years at New Horizons in Marlborough and St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham.

Blessed with an excellent sense of humor, Grace valued her family and enjoyed working with children. She liked to socialize, play cards and travel with her family and friends, and she was a regular at The Spoon in Hopkinton. She was keenly aware of current events, often reading two or three newspapers a day, and could be seen supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s musical and athletic events in Framingham, Marlborough and Westborough. She was a lifelong Boston Celtics fan.

Grace leaves her sons, Richard K. and wife Julie of Charlestown, Rhode Island, and Keith F. and wife Zita of Newburyport; her grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Scott Lutterbie, Matthew and wife Krista Melvin, Christopher Melvin, and Stephanie and husband Stan Beck; her great-grandchildren, Amelia and Rachel Lutterbie; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Francis J. McCarthy Jr.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 1, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home in Hopkinton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Hopkinton. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Hopkinton.

Donations in Grace’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
