Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff announced on Monday that water service will be temporarily interrupted next week for ongoing utility construction at the site of the former Hopkinton Drug.
Contractors will complete a new sewer connection at the site that requires modifications to the existing water main, according to a notice to residents. Work is scheduled for June 15 and will occur between 10 p.m.-5 a.m. The affected area extends along Cedar Street from Main Street to A Street.
Those in the affected area are encouraged to plan ahead and perform duties that require water before the 10 p.m. start time on June 15.
Once service is restored, water customers in the area may experience temporary discoloration. The issue can be resolved by residents flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released. The Water-Sewer Department recommends residents check their water before use.
Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
