Ballots cast by Hopkinton residents during the state primary on Tuesday reflected results statewide for two key races: the Democratic race for the U.S. Senate and the Republican nomination for governor.

The majority of the 2,159 Democratic ballots cast favored incumbent Sen. Ed Markey over challenger Rep. Seth Moulton. Markey took 1,305 votes (60.4%) in Hopkinton to Moulton’s 840 (38.9%). The split mirrors statewide results, according to results from WBUR posted Wednesday morning.

The incumbent senator will face Republican candidate John Deaton in the November election. Deaton, a lawyer and cryptocurrency advocate who previously ran against Sen. Elizabeth Warren, ran unopposed in the Republican primary this year.

A total of 551 residents cast votes on the Republican ballot. The key race on the Republican side was Michael Minogue versus Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts governor.

Minogue earned 378 votes (68.6%) while Shortsleeve took 166 (30.1%). Shortsleeve performed marginally better in Hopkinton in comparison to statewide results.

Minogue won the Republican nomination with 75.9% of the overall vote, per the results from WBUR. He will take on Gov. Maura Healey later this fall.

Town Clerk Connor Degan confirmed that all accepted mail-in ballots were included in Hopkinton’s primary results on Tuesday.
