Gallery exhibit at HCA highlights ‘healing’ impact of art

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts will host an artist reception tonight for the five artists whose work is included in “Creating Through It.”
“It’s a moving tribute to art as a tool for healing,” stated HCA instructor Megann Filios in a recent email to the Independent. “This art show is the most important that we put on each year.”
The exhibit annually honors a curator fellowship awardee “to distinguish an artist from an underrepresented demographic in the arts that has vision and talent.” This year’s recipient is Jamaal Bonnette. His work is included in the exhibit.
“[T]his inspiring exhibition features the powerful work of five remarkable artists whose pieces explore personal journeys, identity, healing, and transformation through creative expression,” according to the HCA website. “Come experience an exhibition that invites reflection, sparks conversation, and reminds us of the power of creativity to inspire, heal, and bring people together.”
Reception attendees can meet the artists, hear the stories behind their work and engage in meaningful conversations about the role art plays in helping us navigate life’s challenges. There also will be spoken word poetry.
The reception begins at 6 p.m. at the HCA building on Hayden Rowe Street. More information about the event is available on the HCA website.
