Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff announced that a power loss incident at the Howe Street water treatment plant in Ashland on Wednesday may result in water discoloration.

According to a notice from Fenneuff, the power issue caused the plant’s pump to cycle on and off multiple times. Residents on the east side of town may experience temporary water discoloration following the interruption, Fenneuff stated.

On its website, the Water-Sewer Department recommends that residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released, it notes.

The site also states that discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.
