Letter to the Editor: Vote to stop commercial solar

by | Aug 10, 2020 | Letter to Editor

Fall Town Meeting, at this point, is Sept. 21, meeting in person at the [middle] school. One important article is to vote yes on the Planning Board’s Solar Overlay District Map.

This overlay district, to be clear, defines where large industrial commercial solar farms may be constructed with rows and rows of shining solar arrays, humming noises, and lithium chemical battery storage rows. This will no longer ruin the backyard views and quiet of residential neighborhoods, other than the homes that already have been burdened.
To be clear, a homeowner is not restricted in any way by this Solar Overlay District Map from installing roof solar panels or backyard ground mountings that do not disturb their neighbors.

There have been several fierce losing battles in residential or forested areas. Come to Town Meeting. Vote yes on the solar overlay map. You then will not be unpleasantly surprised by a commercial solar farm setting up behind your home or in your favorite spot for forested trails.

— Ann Karnofsky, Hopkinton
