Catherine Chiarelli

Mrs. Catherine A. “Kay” (Falzone) Chiarelli of South Dennis, formerly of Waltham, died at home Feb. 6. She was 81.

Kay was born in Waltham on Oct. 6, 1940, to the late James P. and Ann F. (Caminiti) Falzone. Raised in Watertown, she graduated from Watertown High School in 1958. She married Anthony D. Chiarelli in Sacred Heart Church on Aug. 12, 1962, and the pair made Waltham their home before moving to South Dennis in 1997.

Until her retirement, Kay worked at the Brimmer and May School in Newton and before that had worked at Compo Industries and at Precision Inventories, both in Waltham.

Kay’s life was her family. She loved her roles as wife, mother and grandmother. She was happiest being with her grandchildren. She was an avid tennis player and an accomplished golfer who spent many happy days playing at courses on the Cape.

Kay leaves her husband, retired Waltham Police Captain Anthony D. Chiarelli; her children, Anthony J. Chiarelli (Annie) of Milford, Mark A. Chiarelli (Cheryl) of North Attleboro and Karen A. Chiarelli (Karen David) of Hopkinton; and her grandchildren, Victoria, Stefani, Kristina, Mark, Lindsey and Andrew Chiarelli.

Family and friends will honor and remember Kay’s life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Route 20), Waltham on Friday, Feb. 11, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to VNA of Cape Cod-Hospice, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Obituaries are submissions, typically from funeral homes, that are not subject to the same level of editorial oversight as the rest of the Hopkinton Independent. Obituaries may be edited for grammatical and factual mistakes and clarifications and shortened for space considerations.
