Holiday lights fundraiser surpasses goal

by | Nov 26, 2025 | Featured: News, News

The organizer of the fundraiser for the holiday lights on the Town Common announced Sunday that more than enough money has been raised to provide for the lights.

Juanita Hanson sent an email to donors indicating the fundraiser had brought in $11,240, well over the $10,000 goal.

She included a breakdown showing that $3,450 was raised through businesses, $6,575 came from individual donations and $1,215 was produced via other fundraising efforts. Hanson called out businesses BoMain, Hop-Yo and Property Cousins (which contributed $1,500).

“The donation will be taken to the Parks & Rec Department by the end of the day tomorrow,” Hanson wrote, adding: “Thank you so much for supporting our Lights on the Common! Each moment of magic and joy that they bring this season is because you cared. You have truly made a difference in our community. May this gift make its way back to you tenfold this season.”

During budget negotiations for fiscal year 2026, Parks & Rec was advised to cut the holiday lights program. The Parks & Rec Commission had discussed soliciting donations after the lights contractor adjusted its cost estimate from $14,000 to $9,500.

The Holiday Stroll and Girl Scouts caroling event are scheduled for Dec. 6, and the lights are expected to be installed before then.
