The search for a new Hopkinton Public Schools superintendent now will include help and feedback from the community.
In a town-wide email, the School Committee announced it is seeking volunteers to assemble a screening committee for the superintendent search. According to the email, the committee will help with applicant screening and selection for first-round interviews. It will conduct those interviews as well, and submit finalists to the School Committee for consideration.
According to the committee application form, members must be available on select dates between February and March in order to be considered. All applications must be submitted by Monday.
Residents chosen for the screening committee will join a group of school district stakeholders in guiding the selection process. These stakeholders include School Committee members, school administrators, representatives from the school district’s bargaining units, a Select Board representative and other community members.
The School Committee also is engaging residents in the superintendent selection process by soliciting direct feedback. The committee “invites all residents to provide input regarding the characteristics believed to be important in the next superintendent of schools.” Those interested in giving feedback must complete an online questionnaire before Feb. 12.
This screening committee is the next step in a months-long process that began after current superintendent Carol Cavanaugh announced her retirement back in November. The School Committee hopes to have a final candidate selected by May 1 with an expected start date of July 1.
