Hopkinton Today: Thursday, May 5

by | May 5, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Annual Town Meeting finally concluded Wednesday following yet another a delay due to the lack of a quorum. The highlight was the approval of a tax increment financing (TIF) agreement with Lykan Bioscience, which is planning to expand its footprint in town by constructing a 112,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 105-107 South Street, next door to its current building.

Moira (Molly) McGaffigan is a thriver. A Hopkinton police officer for four years, she is thriving at her job; but more importantly, she is a 14-year ovarian cancer thriver.

Leading off this week’s Independent Thoughts, the recently released 2020 U.S. Census data that showed Hopkinton was the 14th-wealthiest town in the state comes as no surprise, and based on the housing market, it seems likely the town will continue to climb that list. Also, Grammy Award-winning singer Judy Collins will perform Saturday at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts’ Celebrity Spotlight on the Arts Concert, the organization’s premier fundraising event.

This week’s Police Log includes one arrest along with reports of stolen hockey equipment, wild animals caught in traps in an Ash Street yard, and an injured turkey that had to be euthanized.

Topping the Hopkinton High School Sports Roundup, the boys and girls track and field teams routed Westwood on Tuesday, with both improving to 4-0 on the season.

A group of Hopkinton High School students is volunteering to perform spring yard cleanings in exchange for donations to Project Just Because. The last cleaning appointment is June 4.

Town meetings tonight include the Lake Maspenock Weed Management and Control Advisory Group (5), School Committee (7), Open Space Preservation Commission (7) and Parks & Recreation Commission (7).
