Hopkinton Today: Tuesday, June 16

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

Last night’s HCAM Select Board debate took a strange turn when incumbent John Coutinho said in his opening remarks that he would not participate due to the “hostile environment” online. We are working on a followup story and expect to have it posted later today.

Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett said he understands the nationwide frustration with police following some well-publicized incidents of excessive force used against black people, but he hopes the town will continue to support his department.

The Timlin 5K, which is being held virtually, is this Saturday. Organizers are hoping for additional registrations in an effort to raise funds to fund ALS research.

The Select Board meets tonight (6) and will receive legislative updates from Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka and Rep. Carolyn Dykema, as well more information about the proposal for a Hopkinton-only Boston Marathon in town.
